DOVER, DELAWARE (1/1/2015) A 19-year-old man riding a skateboard died after he was struck by a small car early today, Dover police said.
The accident was reported at 4:14 a.m. on Kenton Road, north of Fieldstone Court.
The victim was identified as Justin Lai of Dover. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cpl. Mark Hoffman said Lai was wearing all black clothing at the time he was struck by a black Ford Focus as he was using the skateboard in the southbound lane.
After striking Lai, the 22-year-old driver of the car, which also was southbound, lost control and struck a tree on the west side of the roadway. The driver was not injured.
Hoffman said the driver’s name was not being released since there were no charges filed.
Police are still investigating the crash.
