Valley Run fire caused by stove used to heat apartment

CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (12/24/2014) A fire that heavily damagedĀ three apartment buildings near Claymont on Sunday has been ruled accidental, the state Fire Marshal’s Office said today.

The fire in the firstĀ block of Butternut Court destroyed fifteen apartments in the Valley Run complex, said Robert L. Fox, deputy state fire marshal.

He said deputies deputies determined the fire originated in a second floor apartment and was caused by a stove being used for heating the apartment. The stove ignited surrounding combustibles and heavily damaged several apartments.
