Valley Run fire damage: $500,000

CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (12/22/2014) A fire that heavily damaged three buildings at the Valley Run apartment complex near Claymont caused an estimated $500,000 damage, investigators said tonight.

The fire broke out just after 9 p.m. in the first block of Butternut Court.

Claymont firefighters found flames shooting from the roof of a 3-story building when they arrived.

Deputy fire marshals are trying to determine how the fire started, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

He said 15 apartment units were damaged.
