Teen tackled, arrested in Bear robbery try

BEAR, DELAWARE (12/23/2014) A 17-year-old boy was arrested after he attempted to rob a pizza restaurant in Bear but was tackled by employees, state police said this morning. He also was linked to an earlier robbery.

The latest incident happened about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Nino’s Pizza Restaurant, 1663 Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40).

Police said the boy, from Newark, approached a 34-year-old woman, implied he was armed and demanded cash. The employee refused and walked to the rear of the business and called 911 while telling other workers of the robbery attempt.

The employees confronted the boy and held him down until troopers arrived. There were no injuries.

Police said they later linked the boy to robbery of a nearby Dollar General store at 1679 Pulaski Highway.

That store was robbed about 10:15 a.m. Sunday, when a demand note was presented to a 39-year-old woman. The employee turned over cash and the robber fled. There were no injuries.

The boy’s name was not released. Bail information wasn’t available, police said.
