NEWARK, DELAWARE (7/1/2015) Three teenage girls walking along Capitol Trail (Route 2) were struck by a car that ran off the road after it collided with another vehicle at Darwin Drive east of Newark this afternoon, authorities said.
The accident happened about 5:20 p.m.
The three children and an elderly man driving one of the cars were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.
Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics released these details on the crash victims:
- An 88-year-old driver was treated for possible head injury or a medical condition. He was taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition.
- A 15-year-old girl was treated for upper and lower extremity injuries, scrapes and cuts, and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
- A second 15-year-old girl was treated for an upper extremity injury, scrapes and cuts, and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
- A 13-year-old girl was treatedĀ for a lower extremity injury, scrapes and cuts and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Haas said the 21-year-old driver of the other vehicle declined medical treatment.
Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company responded as well as Delaware State Police.
