NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (5/15/2015) A 73-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a car that turned into his path near New Castle this morning, Delaware State Police said. Two people in the car also were injured.

The accident was reported at 11:47 a.m. on Route 273 (Christiana Road) at Airport Road (Route 37), in front of the Community Plaza shopping center.

Police said the motorcyclist, Stanley A. Kidd, of Pennsville, New Jersey, was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.

He was eastbound on Route 273 when his 2012 Harley Davidson struck the passenger side of a westbound 2001 Toyota Solara that was making a left turn into the shopping center, police said.

Kidd, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from his bike into the roadway.

The driver of the Toyota, Jamal L. Whitsett, 20, of Newark, and a 19-year-old man who was a passenger in the car also were taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital. Both were treated for injuries not life-threatening, police said. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Eastbound Route 273 was closed about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.

Police said the crash remains under investigation.
