NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (4/23/2015) Fire heavily damaged a townhome in the Dobbinsville section of New Castle on Wednesday but firefighters rescued a dog and two cats.
Good Will Fire Company volunteers found heavy smoke coming from the front of the building in the 600 block of Clark St. when they arrived about 11 a.m., said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.
They were assisted by firefighters from Wilmington Manor, Minquadale, Holloway Terrace, Christiana and Minquas fire companies.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by a candle igniting combustibles in a second-floor bedroom, Fox said. The cause was ruled accidental.
Damage was estimated at $25,000.
No one was home when the fire broke out, he said.
No injuries were reported.
