UPDATED STORY: Fire started by discarded cigarette
NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (4/14/2015) Two residents were rescued by firefighters Monday night after a fire in a house in the Mayview Manor neighborhood near New Castle, according to reports from the scene.
Heavy smoke was showing when firefighters arrived at the two-story Cape Cod home at 109 Hillview Ave. about 9:30 p.m. and the fire was contained in about 15 minutes.
A man and woman were taken to Christiana Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Holloway Terrace, Minquadale, Goodwill of New Castle, Wilmington Manor, Claymont and Minquas of Newport fire companies responded as well as New Castle County paramedics.
