NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (2/3/2015) A teenage boy struck by a car while walking along U.S. 40 west of New Castle tonight is in critical condition, authorities said.
State police say the accident about 6:40 p.m. just east of Route 1, in the eastbound lanes, involved a single vehicle.
The teenager, who was thrown up into the windshield of the car, was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.
The boy, believed to be 17 years old, suffered a possible head injury and scrapes, said Cpl. Abigail Haas of New Castle County paramedics.
Both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane were closed as state police investigated, said Master Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. DelDOT reports they have since been reopened.
