ELSMERE, DELAWARE (8/25/2015) A gunman tried to rob a Dollar Tree store west of Elsmere on Monday night but fled empty-handed, Delaware State Police reported today.
The robbery attempt happened about 8:40 p.m. at 2103 Kirkwood Highway.
The gunman first confronted a 20-year-old man working at the store and ordered him into the office. But the worker fled and called 911.
The gunman then confronted a female employee and ordered her into the office. She refused and the gunman fled without taking anything from the store, police said. He was seen leaving the parking lot in a dark vehicle.
No one was injured.
The gunman was described as black, 25-30 years old, about 5-feet-7 to 5-feet-8 and weighing 140-160 pounds. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt, dark pants and red shoes.
