House fire near Bethany causes $750,000 damage

BETHANY BEACH, DELAWARE (8/13/2015) Fire that swept through a three-story home north of Bethany Beach late Wednesday caused an estimated $750,000 damage, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office said tonight.

The blaze in the 29000 block of Cove Way in Cotton Patch Hills also caused exposure damage to two neighboring homes, said Harry R. Miller, chief deputy state fire marshal.

He said neighbors noticed the fire about 11:15 p.m. and alerted the residents, who escaped without injury.

Investigators determined the fire started in the garage but the cause is still unknown, Miller said.

When firefighters from Bethany Beach arrived, Miller said, there were heavy flames in the garage and extending into the main part of the home.

Firefighters from Millville, Roxana, Frankford and Rehoboth Beach also responded.

Miller said there is no indication of a suspicious fire.

The victims of the fire were staying with neighbors.
