PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard is searching off Delaware and nearby areas for a man missing from a freighter in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Marshall Islands-flagged ship Ibrahim Dede reported the crew member was discovered missing Tuesday off Ocean City, Maryland, after the vessel had left port in Bayonne, New Jersey.

The Coast Guard was notified about 4:30 p.m. and launched a rescue boat and helicopter from Atlantic City and a plane from Elizabeth City, North Carolina, to search for the man.

The 600-foot-long freighter continued to its next port in Norfolk, Virginia.
