BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, DELAWARE (7/16/2018) A 19-year-old Pennsylvania man died early today in a fiery crash, the Delaware State Police said.

The crash was reported at 3:28 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Concord Pike (U.S. 202) near Rocky Run Parkway, in front of Widener University’s Delaware Law School.

Only one vehicle was involved, police said.

The car went off the road, struck a fence and tree, then bounced back into the roadway and became engulfed in flames, police said. Two passersby attempted to rescue the driver from the Mazda MZ3 but were unsuccessful due to the heat and flames.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld by police pending notification of next of kin.

Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash, and their investigation is continuing.

Northbound lanes were closed about three hours.
