20-year-old woman shot in Wilmington, in critical condition

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (6/23/2018) A 20-year-old woman was shot in the upper back this evening and is in critical condition, Wilmington police said.

The shooting was reported at 7:19 p.m. at Fifth and Monroe streets, where police responded to a report of a fight.

Officers heard shots being fired as they arrived in the area, and they found the wounded woman.

The officers began life-saving measures and called for an ambulance. The victim was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics, then taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Police said the shooting may have stemmed from a fight in the area.
