PIKE CREEK, DELAWARE (9/8/2017) A 54-year-old woman was killed and two others injured in a crash on New Linden Hill Road in Pike Creek, the Delaware State Police said.

The collision was reported at 11:37 a.m. Thursday west of the Pike Creek Boulevard intersection, near the Wawa and Walgreens stores.

A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was exiting from a stop sign at the shopping center onto westbound New Linden Hill Road when it collided with the right front of a westbound 2013 Honda CRS. Both vehicles traveled a short distance before coming to a stop, police said.

Mina Pirestani, 54, of Wilmington, the right front seat passenger in the Equinox, was pronounced dead a short time later after being taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton. A rear-seat passenger, Fakhir Pirestani, 92, of Wilmington, was admitted to the hospital for injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

The driver of the Equinox, Marilyn Ben, 23, of Wilmington, was not injured.

The driver of the Honda, Lynette Reid, 45, of Newark, was taken to Christiana by ambulance for treatment of injuries police said were not life-threatening.

“Neither impairment nor high speed appear to be contributing factors on the part of either operator. No charges have been filed at this time,” Sgt. Richard Bratz said.

He said all involved were wearing seat belts.

New Linden Hill Road was closed about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
