Police seek man in attempted purse snatching at Dollar General

Delaware State Police released this surveillance image of suspect in attempted robbery at Dollar General store north of Magnolia.

MAGNOLIA, DELAWARE (9/6/2017) A man about 25-35 years old is being sought in the attempted purse snatching from a woman at a Dollar General store north of Magnolia last month, the Delaware State Police said Tuesday.

The crime happened about 2:15 p.m. Aug. 15 at 56 W. Birdie Lane.

Police said a man who had been acting suspiciously approached a woman’s shopping cart and put his hand on her purse.

She then covered her purse with both hands and screamed that she was being robbed.

The man then ran out of the store, throwing a box of detergent at an employee who was trying to block his escape. The woman and the male employee were not injured.

The robber, who ran to the south of the store, was described as white, about 5-feet-7 and 150-170 pounds. He was wearing grey shorts, a white T-shirt and a blue baseball hat.
