CLAYMONT, DELAWARE (8/12/2017) A pedestrian struck by a car on Philadelphia Pike in Claymont on Friday night was in critical condition, the Delaware State Police said.
The collision happened about 9:50 p.m. in the left turn lane approaching Harvey Road.
A 22-year-old Chester, Pennsylvania, woman was driving a 2010 Mazda sedan southbound and struck a 48-year-old Claymont man who was standing in the middle of the turn lane, police said.
The man hit the windshield of the car before falling onto the pavement. The car came to a stop.
The man was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton.
Police are withholding his name pending notification of family.
He was cited by police for failure to cross at a marked crosswalk and failure to carry a light.
The driver of the Mazda was not injured, police said.
