NEWARK, DELAWARE (8/10/2017) The McKinly Laboratory building at the University of Delaware will remain closed at least until Monday following a fire Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

The fire broke out about 1 p.m. in a basement room that was undergoing renovations at 63 E. Delaware Ave.

A spark from a saw ignited the fire, and heat from the blaze traveled through the ventilation system and activated sprinklers on the second floor.

Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company responded.

Everyone in the building was safely evacuated.

Several firefighters were treated for heat-related medical issues.
