SEAFORD, DELAWARE (7/1/2017) The name of a 57-year-old man killed when his SUV crashed and overturned on a curve east of Seaford has been released by the Delaware State Police.
The crash happened about 6 p.m. Friday on Tharp Road at Pineview Road.
The Seaford man, George E. Keim , was eastbound driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler, approaching a sharp left curve at the intersection.
“Due to an unsafe rate of speed, the operator was unable to maintain control of the vehicle while rounding the curve,” Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
The Jeep left the south side of the road into a yard, sliding back into the roadway then back off, where it overturned and ejected Keim.
“The Jeep then came to a stop on top of the driver, trapping him underneath,” Fournier said.
He said Keim wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Keim was extricated from under the Jeep and taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead.
Tharp Road was closed about three hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
