Dover man, 34, charged in Milford murder

MILFORD, DELAWARE (7/1/2017) A Dover man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 36-year-old Ellendale man, Milford police said today.

The early morning shooting happened at the Silver Lake Estates apartment complex off Linstone Lane in Milford.

Police said the shooting happened when Don R. Martinez, 34, of Dover, was fighting with Kevin M. King of Ellendale, with Martinez firing multiple rounds from a handgun that struck King. 

“Mr. King was reportedly removed from the scene by Mr. Martinez in a vehicle that was later located by Dover police and the Delaware State Police near Route 10, with Mr. King being found deceased inside,” Sgt. Robert Masten said. “Mr. Martinez was apprehended near the abandoned vehicle by the Delaware State Police.”

A 31-year-old man also wounded in the shooting was treated at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital and released, Masten said.

Martinez also was charged by Milford police with possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.

He was being held at Sussex Correctional Institution near Georgetown in lieu of $1 million cash bail.
