Fire damages Bear townhome; 2 in critical condition

BEAR, DELAWARE (5/13/2017) Four people were injured, two of them critically, when fire heavily damaged a town house in Bear early today, authorities said.

Christiana firefighters were called out at 3:24 a.m. and found smoke pouring from the end unit at 447 Feather Drive in the Wellington Woods community.

Four occupants, ages 13, 18, 25 and 44, weretaken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for treatment of smoke inhalation, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

The 13- and 25-year-olds were then transferred to Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. Both were in critical condition, Chionchio said.

The other two were treated at Christiana and released.

Chionchio said damage to the townhome was estimated at $20,000.

Investigators are still trying to determine how it started.

Smoke detectors sounded in the home, Chionchio said.

Several other fire companies assisted in fighting the fire.

New Castle County paramedics and police also responded.
