DELAWARE (3/12/2017) Weather forecasters have a wide range of predictions for a coastal storm due Monday night and Tuesday, with the latest forecast Sunday afternoon saying the storm has the potential for up to 16 inches of snow in northern Delaware.
But the nor’easter could bring as little as 3 inches upstate with none downstate, according to the National Weather Service. And some rain or a wintry mix on Tuesday may reduce snow totals.
The service said there is still considerable uncertainty about snowfall totals on the Delmarva Peninsula.
The service’s “most likely” outlook calls for 8 to 12 inches in northern New Castle County, tapering down to 4-6 inches in Kent County and none in Sussex County. That’s a bit more snow expected for the middle of the state than earlier predictions.
The storm also is expected to bring winds gusting to 40-60 mph in coastal areas, as well as minor to moderate coastal flooding. The worst flooding is expected at high tide Tuesday morning.
Precipitation is expected to arrive Monday evening, with the heaviest snow and strongest winds expected from late Monday night into Tuesday morning. Some areas may see a lull in the snow during the day Tuesday, and precipitation is expected to taper off Wednesday.
