Maryland man charged with threatening Gov. Markell

MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (11/9/2016) A Warwick, Maryland, man has been charged with threatening Delaware Gov. Jack Markell on Facebook, authorities said Tuesday.

Delaware State Police investigated a complaint about 6:15 p.m. Sunday from a resident in the 300 block of Pheasant Drive in Middletown that she and the governor had been threatened in the social media post.

The resident told police the threat was made by a relative of one of her family members.

Police said they confirmed the threat in the post but did not divulge details “due to the sensitive nature of the incident.”

Roger M. Matthews, 51, was arrested Tuesday and charged with threatening the life of a public official.

He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $4,000 cash bond.
