Pedestrian killed on U.S. 13

LAUREL, DELAWARE (9/10/2016) A man from Mexico died after running into traffic on U.S. 13, Delaware State Police said this morning.

The man killed, whose name is being withheld by police pending notification of next of kin, ran into the side of a Chrysler PT cruiser near Chipmans Lane about 9:20 p.m. Friday.

The man was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, Chad W. Everett, 45, was not injured. Police said he was wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol may have been a factor on behalf of the pedestrian, police said, and he also was wearing dark clothing and was not carrying a flashlight.

U.S 13 southbound at Chipmans Lane was closed for about two and a half hours while the crash was investigated.
