Overturned truck causes Route 1 delays

TYBOUTS CORNER, DELAWARE (8/16/2016) An overturned Southern States tanker truck caused delays on northbound Route 1 near Tybouts Corner for several hours, according to reports from the scene.

The crash happened about 8 a.m. today approaching the U.S. 13 and Route 1 split, near Red Lion Creek. The tanker truck ended up off the right side of the road.

Northbound traffic was moving at a crawl, with the backup beginning before Route 72.

Initially the right lane was closed, but DelDOT reported at 9:13 a.m. that the right and center northbound lanes were closed at Tybouts Corner for an accident.

DelDOT reported all lanes had been reopened at 1:28 p.m.

Southbound delays also were reported. DelDOT said the right lanes were closed for construction until 3 p.m.

Delaware State Police and DelDOT crews were on the scene. Delaware City firefighters also were dispatched.
