Police: Man found dead in Christina River was 35

NEWPORT, DELAWARE (8/15/2016) A man found dead in the Christina River on Saturday has been identified as a 35-year-old from Wilmington, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

Police said the body was spotted floating about 7:45 a.m. by  a Newark man on his fishing boat in the area of the boat ramp near Newport. Interstate 95 runs along the opposite bank of the Christina River.

Another person at the boat ramp called 911 and the boater secured the body and brought it to shore, police said.

Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control officers and Newport police then arrived, and emergency medical crews declared the man dead.

His identity was determined by the Division of Forensic Science but his name is being withheld, police said, as the cause of death has yet to be determined.
