MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (8/7/2016) A passenger who was ejected from an SUV that overturned on Route 1 near Middletown on Saturday afternoon has died of her injuries, Delaware State Police said this morning.
The driver remains in critical condition at a hospital.
Police said the crash happened about 3:45 p.m. near Pine Tree Road. The southbound 2001 Ford Escape entered the median and overturned numerous times, ejecting Jonese Y. Seymore, 58, of Dover, from the front passenger seat. She wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Seymore was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where she died several hours later.
Police said she hadn’t been wearing a seat belt.
The SUV came to a stop in the northbound lanes.
The driver, Danielle R. Cain, 27, of Dover, was flown to the hospital by Delaware State Police helicopter where she remained this morning in critical condition, police said. She had been wearing a seat belt.
Troopers are still investigating the crash and no charges have been filed.
Traffic faced lane closures for about 2½ hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
