Wilmington man pistol-whipped in Newark motel invasion

NEWARK, DELAWARE (6/28/2016) A 21-year-old Wilmington man was pistol-whipped when three others forced their way into his motel room in Newark, authorities said.

Newark police said they home-invasion type robbery happened at the Super 8 Motel, 268 E. Main St., just before midnight Monday.

The victim reported three black males knocked on his door, then one forced his way in when he opened it and began fighting with him.

The two other intruders then began pistol-whipping the victim.

The three intruders took property from the man and fled toward East Main Street in a silver four-door sedan with a Delaware registration.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he declined medical treatment, Lt. Bill Hargrove said.

One intruder was described as 6-feet-1, with average build and wearing a red shirt. Another was 6-feet-1, wearing a black sweatshirt and armed with a handgun. The third was 6-feet-1, wearing a black sweatshirt and armed with a handgun.
