UPDATED STORY: Police identify two men killed

GREENWOOD, DELAWARE (6/18/2016) Two young men were killed in the crash of a small car northeast of Greenwood early today, the Delaware State Police said. Another man was seriously injured.

The crash happened about 5:20 a.m. on Route 36 (Shawnee Road) just south of the northern intersection with Memory Road.

An eastbound 2005 Dodge Neon went off the north side of the road on a moderate right curve, police said, continued along the edge of the road and began to spin around. The driver’s side door then struck a tree violently, causing the car to spin in the opposite direction.

The driver, a 21-year-old Milford man, was ejected from the car onto the shoulder. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The Neon finally came to a stop in the front yard of a home on the north side of Route 36.

The driver and a 19-year-old Lincoln man who was a passenger in the left rear seat were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the Lincoln man also wasn’t wearing a seat belt, although he wasn’t ejected from the car.

A 21-year-old Milford man who was in the front passenger’s seat was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries police said were serious. Police said he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Police are still investigating the crash but said alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Route 36 was closed about 3.5 hours as troopers investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
