BEAR, DELAWARE (5/5/2016) An 18-year-old woman was in critical condition after a crash this afternoon that trapped her in her car for half an hour, authorities said.

The accident happened about 3 p.m. on U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) at Brookmont Drive.

A rollback dumpster truck collided with the woman’s sedan, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

After firefighters from Christiana and Claymont cut open the car to extricate her,  the woman was treated by paramedics for lower extremity, head and possible internal injuries, then flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton by a Delaware State Police helicopter, Haas said.

State police said the westbound lanes of U.S. 40 were closed as they investigated the crash. DelDOT reported at 5:23 p.m. that all lanes had been reopened.
