2 cats die in Pike Creek fire; $100,000 damage

PIKE CREEK, DELAWARE (3/24/2016) Two cats died in a fire at the Foxwood Apartments in Pike Creek, according to reports from the scene.

The fire was reported shortly after 9 p.m. Monday at 8 Fox Hall.

Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company of Newark found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the building. Additional fire companies, including Christiana, were dispatched.

Investigators ruled the fire in a second-floor aparment was accidental, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

Damage to the building was estimated at $100,000.

The Red Cross of Delmarva was assisting 16-20 people displaced by the fire.
