High temperature record set again at New Castle Airport

DELAWARE (3/10/2016)record high temperature was set at New Castle Airport early this afternoon, for the second day in a row, the National Weather Service says.

The temperature reached 80 degrees at 3:18 p.m., breaking a record of 77 set in 2006.

A record high minimum temperature also was set today, with the low of 54 breaking the old record of 56 set in 2006.

 

Wednesday’s high of 81 degrees at New Castle Airport, recorded at 2:24 p.m., broke a record 74 degrees set in 1964 and matched in 2000. The normal high for the day is 50.

At Delaware Coastal Airport near Georgetown, a high of 76 degrees at 3:35 p.m. Wednesday tied the Sussex County record set in 1964. Normal high for the day is 52 degrees.

This afternoon, a high of 77 degrees was recorded at the Sussex County airport, short of the record high of 80 set in 2006.

Warmer than normal temperatures are expected to continue into next week, the weather service said. There’s a chance of showers late tonight through mid-morning Friday. No record temperatures are predicted for Friday.
