MILTON, DELAWARE (2/23/2016) A 71-year-old woman was killed in a crash west of Milton on Monday, the Delaware State Police reported.
The accident happened about 2:50 p.m. on Sand Hill Road at Gravel Hill Road (Route 30).
The woman was driving west in a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero on Sand Hill and had stopped for a flashing red light at the intersection, then proceeded into the path of a northbound 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, which faced a flashing yellow light on Route 30, police said.
The driver of the Suburban, 45-year-old John M. Klauder of the Camden-Wyoming area, braked but struck the driver’s side of the Oldsmobile, police said.
Both vehicles went off the northwest cornoer of the intersection into a field.
The woman’s name has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
Klauder was taken to Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, treated and released. Police said he had been wearing a seat belt.
Route 30 was closed at the intersection about 2 hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
