NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (2/19/2016) Fire swept through two buildings at an industrial park south of New Castle this morning, and one firefighter was taken to a hospital.

The two-alarm blaze on Bay West Boulevard, between Route 9 and the Delaware River, was reported at 7:51 a.m.

One of the buildings was identified as the Cirillo Brothers business.

Multiple vehicles were destroyed.

The building was being used for repair of vehicles, said Robert L. Fox, chief deputy state fire marshal.

He said heavy fire was coming from the building when Good Will Fire Company units arrived. The second alarm brought additional firefighters from neighboring departments.

One firefighter, a 65-year-old man, experienced a medical emergency and was treated on scene before being taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious condition, said Sgt. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics.

Fox said investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.

He said the Red Cross of Delmarva is assisting one person who lived on the second floor of the building.

DelDOT reported Route 9 was closed at Grantham Lane while firefighters dealt with the blaze.
