SMYRNA, DELAWARE (2/13/2016) Three people were injured in a nearly head-on crash Friday on Route 1 near Smyrna, the Delaware State Police said today.

The accident was reported about 5:45 p.m. south of Exit 119, the north Smyrna exit.

Police said 34-year-old Elizabeth C. Gray, of Dover, was southbound driving a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when for unknown reasons she crossed the median and struck a northbound 2011 Chevrolet Cruz.

Gray was first taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, then flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton with serious injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

The driver of the Cruz, Ashkia C. Dickerson, 24, of Middletown, and an 18-year-old woman riding with her were both taken by ambulance to Kent General for injuries police said were not life-threatening.

Gray was cited by police for careless driving and no proof of insurance.

Police said the northbound lanes were closed about 90 minutes.
