Pickup hits pole in Pike Creek; driver trapped by wires

PIKE CREEK, DELAWARE (1/16/2016) A pickup truck struck a utility pole, then went down a steep embankment, authorities said, with downed wires trapping the driver for about 20 minutes on Friday night.

The crash happened about 6:50 p.m. in the 200 block of Upper Pike Creek Road.

Mill Creek firefighters freed the driver and he was assessed for injuries before being taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton for further evaluation, said Lt. Michael A. McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

He was in stable condition, McColley said.

New Castle County police are investigating the crash.

Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company also responded.
