WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/21/2015) A 51-year-old Hockessin man has been charged in a string of armed robberies and attempts in northern New Castle County, the Delaware State Police reported this morning. Five of the robberies happened on one day last week.
Curtis J. Butler was arrested Friday after an attempted robbery at a Wawa convenience store at 705 Philadelphia Pike in the Penny Hill area northeast of Wilmington.
Wielding a wrench, police said, the robber confronted a clerk and demanded money from the register but he refused and the robber fled in a white Ford pickup truck. No one was injured.
Police said Butler was arrested after a brief struggle when the truck was located at 17th and Spruce streets in Wilmington.
Police said Butler was then linked to these armed robberies:

- Pat’s Pizza, 3604 Lancaster Pike, Dec. 5, at 10:46 a.m.
- Wawa, 1 Salem Church Road, Dec. 6, at 2:12 a.m.
- Exxon, 2007 Newport Gap Pike, Dec. 17, at 1:07 a.m.
- 7-Eleven, 13 Red Mill Road, Dec. 17, at 5:45 a.m.
- Work N Gear, 3839 Kirkwood Hwy, Dec. 17, at 2:34 p.m.
- Pickle & Chips, 1707 Foulk Road, Dec. 17, at 5:28 p.m.
- Fairfax Cleaners, 3 Fairfax Blvd., Dec. 17, at 5:38 p.m.
Butler was charged with seven counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree robbery and resisting arrest.
He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $456,000 secured bail.
