Crossover crash jams I-495; driver, 35, taken to hospital

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/11/2015) A southbound pickup truck went out of control and crossed over a median berm on Interstate 495 south of Wilmington this afternoon, overturning several times and coming to a stop in the northbound lanes, jamming traffic there.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. over U.S. 13 (North DuPont Highway).

The 35-year-old man driving the truck was trapped in the wreckage about 15 minutes until he was freed by firefighters.

He was treated for head, face and neck injuries and then taken by Brandywine Hundred Fire Company ambulance to Christiana Hospital, said Sgt. Michael A. McColley of New Castle County paramedics. The man was in stable condition.

 

Minquadale and Holloway Terrace fire companies responded.

Delaware State Police investigated the accident.
