DOVER, DELAWARE (11/26/2015) A 52-year-old woman was killed and an 18-year-old woman was injured in a crash on U.S. 13 on Wednesday night north of Dover, the Delaware State Police said.
The fatal accident involving two vehicles happened about 9 p.m. in the northbound lanes just north of Dyke Branch Road.
The woman killed was identified as Martha T. Barbo of Dover. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Barbo was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla and was stopped at a stop sign facing west in a private parking lot, then attempted to cross the northbound lanes of U.S. 13.
Her car was struck in the driver’s door by a 2011 Cadillac SRX that was northbound in the left lane, police said, and the Toyota spun around and stopped in the roadway.
The Cadillac crossed the grass median and both southbound lanes before stopping after its bumper hit a ditch.
The driver of the Cadillac, 18-year-old Davilliah J. Green of Magnolia, was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover, treated for her injuries and released.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, police said.
The northbound lanes of U.S. 13 were closed about three hours as police investigated the crash and the wreckage was cleared.
Cheswold firefighters responded.
