Pedestrian struck by car on U.S. 13 in Dover dies

DOVER, DELAWARE (10/14/2015) A 47-year-old man died after he was struck by a car on southbound U.S. 13 (North DuPont Highway) near the Dover Mall, city police said.

The accident happened about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in front of 1380 N. DuPont Highway.

Dillard Stevens was attempting to walk westbound across the highway and was not using a crosswalk or intersection, Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

He was struck by a 2001 Ford Taurus that was southbound in the left travel line, Hoffman said. The name of the driver was not released.

Stevens was given first aid at the scene and taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he later died.

“It is suspected that the pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. No charges are pending against the driver of the vehicle,” Hoffman said.
