2 children injured, one critically, in Route 9 crash

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (11/21/2015) Two children were injured Friday, one of them critically, in a two-vehicle collision on Route 9 south of New Castle, authorities said.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. on River Road (Route 9) at Federal School Lane.

A 12-year-old boy was treated for a head injury and flown to Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Rockland by Delaware State Police helicopter, said Senior Cpl. Abigail E. Haas of New Castle County paramedics. He was in critical condition.

A 7-year-old girl riding in the same vehicle was treated for a possible head injury and then taken to the hospital by Good Will Fire Company ambulance, Haas said. She was in stable condition.

Delaware City and Wilmington Manor fire companies also responded.

State police are investigating the crash.
