WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (11/13/2015) City council members are protesting a planned “Murder Town” television show that is to be set in Wilmington.

Twelve of 13 council members sent a letter via email this morning to executives of the A+E Networks and ABC Entertainment Group concerning the program. The 13th member, Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey Walker, had been out of state and her signature was added to a revised letter later in the day.

Wilmington was first dubbed “Murder Town USA” in a Newsweek magazine report last year due to its high number of violent crimes.

Variety first reported earlier this week that Jada Pinkett Smith would be starring in a pilot for the TV show and potential series.

According to Variety, “Pinkett Smith will star as a beautiful and complicated prosecutor who makes history as Wilmington, Delaware’s first African-American District Attorney.”

The real Wilmington, of course, doesn’t have anyone with the title of district attorney.
