BELLEFONTE, DELAWARE (11/11/2015) The second suspect in the carjacking and kidnapping of a 71-year-old woman at a Wawa store on Philadelphia Pike was arrested today when he went to New Castle County police headquarters in Minquadale to retrieve a silver sedan used in the carjacking, authorities said.

John Johnson, 51, of the 600 block of Else Drive in Newark, was charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree carjacking, second-degree conspiracy, unlawful use of a card, theft under $1,500 where the victim is over 62 years old and possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony.

Police earlier had called Johnson an accomplice in the carjacking about 5 p.m. Tuesday on Philadelphia Pike at Parkway Avenue near Bellefonte.

The 71-year-old victim had just left the Wawa store when a man showed a handgun and demanded cash. The gunman then ordered her to drive to another Wawa store at DuPont Highway (U.S. 13) and Memorial Drive in Minquadale. She told police she gave him cash before he fled in an unknown vehicle.

Norris Farlow, 54, of the 800 block of Washington St. in New Castle, was arrested about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday after county officers stopped a silver sedan for disregarding a stop sign at Rose and Thorn lanes in the Rosegate community, police said.

The officers recognized Farlow from surveillance photos that had been distributed from the Wawa carjacking, Cpl. Tracey Duffy said, and they found an orange shirt in the car matching the one worn in the photos.

The officers learned Farlow had an active warrant for his arrest, Duffy said, and found drug paraphernalia in the car.

Farlow was charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree carjacking, second-degree conspiracy, unlawful use of a card, theft under $1,500 where the victim is over 62 years of age, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, unauthorized use of a vehicle, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations. He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $33,000 cash bail.

Johnson was being held at Young in lieu of $53,000 secured bail.
