NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (11/5/2015) A man on probation for a 2005 felony conviction was arrested when troopers investigating the smell of marijuana found a gun in his room Tuesday at a motel on U.S. 13 near New Castle, the Delaware State Police said.
Police said troopers and parole officers were conducting “proactive enforcement of quality of life crimes” at the Dutch Inn motel at 111 S. DuPont Highway, just south of Hares Corner, about 2:15 a.m.
Norman Miller, 30, of Wilmington, was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person prohibited, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Police said they found a loaded Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun hidden under a mattress.
Miller was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $30,000 cash bond.
