68-year-old man rescued after fall into grain silo

SEAFORD, DELAWARE (11/3/2015) A 68-year-old man was trapped for 2½ hours after falling into a partially filled grain silo west of Seaford on Monday, the Delaware State Police said.

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. at 6127 Owls Nest Road.

Police said the man was on top of the silo cleaning the interior walls when he fell into the top hole and dropped about 30 feet.

Another man working on the farm called 911.

Police, Seaford firefighters, Sussex County EMS and rescue teams including from the Perdue Company worked together to place the victim in a harness and hoist him out of the silo.

He was then flown by state police helicopter to Christiana Hospital in Stanton as a precaution, but police said his injuries were not life-threatening.

The man’s name was not released by police.
