WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (11/3/2015) A 17-year-old boy shot in the 900 block of Maryland Avenue this afternoon was in critical condition, Wilmington police said.

The shooting was reported just after 2 p.m.

The boy, wounded in the back, was treated by New Castle County paramedics and taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital.

Police asked anyone with information on the shooting to call Detective Devon Jones at 302-576-3631.

The latest shooting in the city came not long after Rita Landfraf, secretary of the state Department of Health and Social Services, released a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study of gun violence in Wilmington. She called the research ground-breaking and said it “looks at gun violence from a public health and social services perspective, not from a law enforcement perspective”
