MIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (10/23/2015) A fire that heavily damaged a town houseĀ in Middletown and displaced six residents in three homes was ruled accidental, the Delaware state Fire Marshal’s Office said this morning.

The blazeĀ at 106 E. Cole Blvd. in the Lone Manor town houses was reported at 6:41 p.m. Thursday.

Flames were shooting from the home when firefighters from Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown arrived, said Michael G. Chijonchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Several neighboring fire companies assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

“The fire was started by an exterior lighting fixture coming into contact with a plastic tarp. The tarp ignited and spread the fire to the occupied townhouse,” Chionchio said.

Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the town house and adjacent units on both sides.

No injuries were reported.
