UPDATED STORY: Police release name of man charged
NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (10/19/2015) A 32-year-old man was charged with DUI after his car struck a home, causing majorĀ damage, in the Chelsea Estates neighborhood near New Castle, police said.
The crash happened about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in the first block of Paul Road, according to New Castle County police.
The car was northbound when it went across the lawn of one home and continued onto another lawn before striking a home, Cpl. Tracey Duffy said.
She said the driver fled on foot but was taken into custody in the 100 block of Rita Road. Duffy said officers detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage.
The home was declared uninhabitable by a building inspector and there was minor damage to the car, Duffy said.
The man, whose name was not released by police, was charged with driving under the influence, two counts of leaving the scene of a property collision accident, driving while suspended or revoked andĀ failure to have insurance identification in possession.
