Newark man dies after head-on crash on Old Baltimore Pike

NEWARK, DELAWARE (10/13/2015) A 35-year-old Newark man has died following a head-on crash earlier this month on Old Baltimore Pike, the Delaware State Police announced this evening.

Scot A. Doyle died Friday at Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

He had been driving a 2000 Hyundai Elantra a week earlier eastbound on Old Baltimore Pike near Old Cooch’s Bridge Road.

Police said a westbound 2005 Hyundai Sonota began to hydroplane and the driver, Emmanuel N. Ndi, 57, of Bear, lost control of the vehicle, which crossed into the eastbound lane.

Following the head-on collision, the Sonata came to rest in the middle of the road and the Elantra was pushed off the side.

Police said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Ndi was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital where he was treated for injuries not considered life threatening, police said, and released.

After the crash, he was charged with careless driving and no proof of insurance. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
