Driver in critical condition after Wilmington crash

The Wilmington Police Department Traffic Division is advising motorists of road closures in the area of W. 4th Street and Bayard Avenue.

The closure is the result of a single vehicle accident in which a motor vehicle ran into a light pole at  about 2:50 p.m.

The driver was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Emergency Room in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the accident may have been the result of a medical emergency, police said.

The following closures will be in effect for approximately 1-2 hours as police investigate the accident scene.

*No east and west bound traffic on 4th Street from Woodlawn Avenue to Bayard Avenue

*No north or south bound traffic on Bayard from 3rd street through 5th Street
Motorists are advised to take an alternate route if possible and to use caution if traveling in the area.
